About Pomsky’s: Pros & Cons

General

PROS

  • Looks & feels like a husky, but smaller.
  • Very smart, loyal, and attached.
  • Are adaptable for just about any lifestyle.

CONS

  • Their busy minds can lead to destruction & anxiety if they aren’t mentally, physically, and emotionally challenged each day.

Health

PROS

  • Pomsky are generally considered a healthy dog breed with a lifespan of 12–15 years.

CONS

  • Because the breed is relatively new, there isn't much data on health issues but the parent breeds have health concerns as follows:
  • Huskys can have eyes and hip problems.
  • Pomeranians tend to have skin & knee problems.  Toy breeds can also have issues with teeth- specifically retained teeth.

Grooming needs

PROS

  • All grooming can be done at home- nail trim, sanitary trim, eyes/ears/tooth care, and LOTS of brushing.
  • A trip to the groomers for a fancy bow (or tie) is also great, be sure your groomer knows the breed- NEVER shave your pomsky!

CONS

  • They shed... a lot.  Both Huskys & Pomeranians are thick, double coated dogs- they will “blow” their coats twice a year.

Training

PROS

  • Pomskys are smart- and most aim to please!
  • Pomeranians were bred to guard the castle, Husky’s are working pack dogs... your pomsky will WANT to work for you.  Establish yourself as pack leader and you’re all set.

CONS

  • Becoming pack leader will take time & patience.
  • Pomsky‘s are diggers and escape artists by nature, proper training is important to keep them safe!
  • Pomsky’s can be stubborn- potty training and general house breaking will take longer than most breeds.

Price Tag

PROS

  • Like with most things in life, you get what you pay for!
  • My puppies will come up to date on vaccinations & vet checked, they will have a health guarantee and lifetime support from me!
  • My puppies will be introduced to potty training, crate training, cats, young children, early neurological stimulation, and more!
  • Pricing for my Pomsky’s will be between $1500-$2500 depending on size, gender, markings, eye coloring, and more.

CONS

  • There are A LOT of pomsky scammers out there- please be cautious while searching.
  • A pomsky for under $1000 is most certainly a scam or an unhealthy choice.
  • Want to avoid a scam?  Ask for specific photos, references, phone calls &/or video calls, and do your research!

More about my program

  • I don’t have a waitlist- we are a very small program with only one breeding female so no waitlist will be created.  If you’d like to be notified when puppies are expected & picked just let me know.
  • I’d love to meet all of my puppy parents but realize that’s not always possible.  If you will require shipping let me know and we will make arrangements.
  • I‘m happy to help!  If you have questions along the way I want to be your first call!
  • My puppies will go home between 8-10 weeks of age.  The time spent with mom and litter mates is priceless - so much learning happens in those first 12 weeks!
